Rorschach, created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, first appeared in Watchmen #1 (1986) published by DC Comics.

His real name is Walter Joseph Kovacs. Abandoned and abused as a child, Kovacs developed a bleak and uncompromising worldview. This worldview manifested in his vigilante persona, Rorschach.

Rorschach wears a mask featuring a symmetrical inkblot pattern that constantly shifts. This mask reflects his belief in objective morality and his inability to see shades of gray. He investigates crime through his rigid moral code and believes in delivering brutal punishment.

Following the events of Watchmen, Rorschach leaves behind a journal detailing Ozymandias' plan for world peace.
